The American Osteopathic Board of Anesthesiology (AOBA) now offers remote-proctored initial certification exams, eliminating travel and hotel costs.

AOBA Primary Certification Exams – August 2026

Primary Written certification exam (NOW OPEN)
Exam Date: August 6, 2026
Deadlines:

  • First: June 7, 2026
  • Final: July 7, 2026 (no applications accepted after this date)

Subspeciality certification exams (NOW OPEN)
Critical Care Medicine, Pain Management, Pediatric Anesthesiology
Exam Date: August 20, 2026
Deadlines:

  • First: June 14, 2026
  • Final: July 14, 2026 (no applications accepted after this date)

Oral certification exam (Applications open April 17, 2026)
Exam Dates: October 17, 2026
Deadlines:

  • First: July 17, 2026
  • Final: August 17, 2026 (no applications accepted after this date)

October 2026 – March 2027 Clinical certification exam (Applications open March 14, 2026)
Deadlines:

  • First: June 30, 2026
  • Final: August 15, 2026 (no applications accepted after this date)

Successful completion of the Written and Oral Exams is required prior to registration for the Clinical Exam.
